National Redress Scheme

National Redress Scheme

The Salesian Society [Vic] Inc, also known as Salesians of Don Bosco, was declared as a participating non-government institution in the National Redress Scheme by the Minister for Families and Social Services on 16 May 2019. The declaration can be viewed here.

The National Redress Scheme was created in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Australia.

It can provide three things:

  • access to counselling;

  • a payment; and

  • a direct personal response from the institution (e.g. an apology) for people who want it.

 This means people who were abused in the care of the Salesians can apply to the Scheme for redress. People are now encouraged to apply through National Redress Website. Free and confidential Redress Support Services are available throughout the process. They can help explain the Scheme and who can apply.
